About the role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Legal Counsel to handle a broad range of commercial legal work in a dynamic business environment. The role involves drafting and negotiating contracts, advising on daytoday legal issues, and helping the organisation manage legal risk in a practical, businessfocused way.
Reporting to the GM of Corporate Services, the position of Legal Counsel is responsible for providing expert legal advice to the wider business and ensuring all risks are assessed and minimised. This position is ideally suited for someone with a can-do and customer focused attitude who can demonstrate proactive, pragmatic and commercial approach to legal issues.
Other duties include:
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts
- Provide clear, practical legal advice on commercial, contractual, consumer, privacy, and general corporate matters.
- In-house litigation management and dispute resolution assistance
- Contract analysis and reporting
- Troubleshooting legal and commercial issues to ensure speedy resolution
- Ensuring relevant legislation is reviewed, and contracts are updated accordingly
- Policy inception, revision, and ongoing management
- Advising on company compliance and regulatory obligations
Skills & experience
Ideally you will have strong knowledge across a broad spectrum of legal matters, preferably in a private practice or in-house environment. Along with this, you will also have:
- Bachelor of Law (or appropriate overseas equivalent) and the entitlement to a NZ Practising Certificate
- Current NZ Practising Certificate holder with 3 years' postqualification experience (PQE)
- Knowledge of key legislation and regulations around corporate governance, employment, and privacy is preferred
- Understanding of basic accounting principles and commercial acumen
