Job Description

Our Macraes-based Health & Safety team are on the hunt for an advisor who is keen to build upon their experience within the mining sector. This role will predominately work with our Underground mining operations department, requiring strong communications skills, ability to learn quickly within a dynamic environment and competence and confidence to work underground as required.

The position works to provide Health and Safety (H&S) support to the Macraes mine site, ensures site compliance with relevant H&S legislation and regulatory authority requirements and works with H&S management, to achieve consistent and effective implementation of the H&S Management Systems and initiatives.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Management of safety in accordance with the H&S Management System.
  • Assist in coordination of Macraes Mine emergency preparedness e.g. evacuation drills, fire equipment and fire drills in conjunction with site emergency response coordinator.
  • Assist and facilitate accident, incident and hygiene investigations and coordinate incident report records management.
  • Carry out risk assessments as required and implement systems to manage identified risks.
  • Assist and carry out on site Occupational Hygiene monitoring as required.
  • Ensuring the facilitation of drug and alcohol testing as schedules dictate.
  • Produce weekly and monthly safety reports for the mine and maintain safety statistics.
  • Provide weekly staff updates on current health and safety issues with an educational focus on health and wellbeing and fitness for work.
  • Monitor, record, and audit safety equipment such as eye wash stations, harnesses, fire extinguishers and self-rescuers and gas monitors.
  • Conduct internal audits as per the site auditing schedule.
  • Develop and implement proactive safety inspections, housekeeping projects, and other safety initiatives
  • Maintain the health and safety database INX to track incidents, hazards, task observation etc.
  • Support the delivery of training programs, coordinating education of site procedures.

Qualifications

  • Full Class 1 Manual Drivers Licence
  • Relevant qualification is Occupation Health & safety or related discipline
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Unrestricted NZ work rights are required for this position

Experience:

  • 3+ years experience in a heavy industry Health and Safety role, preferably in an underground environment
  • The ability to interpret and apply the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015 & Health and Safety at Work (In Mining and In Quarrying) Regulations 2016 and the relevant Codes of Practice
  • Knowledge of hazardous substance management, preferably within the NZ HSNO legislative environment
