Mo te tima/About our team
Since its establishment in 1875, the Department of Anatomy has grown to become one of the largest departments in the University. Our department makes major contributions to the undergraduate and postgraduate education of students in science, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physiotherapy, medical lab sciences, nutrition, and physical education. We are committed to excellence in both teaching and research. We also have a number of internationally recognised research groups led by experienced academic staff.
Te mahi/The role
The Museum Preparator provides high level technical expertise to produce and maintain very high-quality models and specimens for teaching, research and the W.D. Trotter Anatomy Museum collection.
Key tasks of the role include:
Designing and producing new anatomical education resources.
Maintaining / conserving and repairing museum models and specimens
Applying artistic sensibility and artistic anatomy knowledge to the production and maintenance of Museum models
Documenting processes specific to the creation or repair of models and specimens
Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, providing quality control measures for the design and execution of projects

We are looking for candidates with the following attributes:
BSc (Hons) preferably in Anatomy or Health / Biomedical Sciences, or equivalent professional experience.
Demonstrated experience in model making, and the ability to adopt new manufacturing techniques.
Strong spatial reasoning skills, in order to understand how anatomical structures fit, align, and interact, displaying good attention to detail.
Preferred
1-2 years' experience with digital technologies (eg: image manipulation, CAD, 3D image creation, 3D print files).
Experience with conservatorship of museum/gallery collections.

This is a permanent, full-time (1 FTE) appointment, located in Otepoti, Dunedin.
The appointment range for this role is $75,631 to $80,503 per annum. Top of the range is $88,750.
