About the Position | Te Mahi
We are seeking a support worker to support a highly energetic outgoing man who enjoys staying active and engaged in the community. This role involves delivering person-centered care, supporting daily living activities, personal care (PC), and home management (HM).
You will be supporting a friendly 40+year old male who enjoys walking, outdoor activities, and getting involved in arts, crafts, and other creative pursuits. He responds well to positive energy and encouragement and enjoys spending time with people who are enthusiastic and supportive.
Job Location: Hutt Valley - Lower Hutt (Wainuiomata area)
Responsibilities may include:
- Working closely with our Service Users to provide support as they go about their daily tasks
- Assisting with complex personal care
- Assisting with household management and meal preparation
- Supporting exercise programmes
- Assisting with accessing the community
- Bowel, Bladder, and Catheter Care
- Moving and handling hoists and manual transfers
- Medication support
- Support the Service Users in achieving positive goals in their lives and contribute to the effective day-to-day running of the services

Maintaining the Service User's safety and well-being.
Employment Type: Permanent Part-Time (Up to 29 Hours)
Days of work: As this is community-based work, rotating rosters would be involved, including am and pm shifts.
The duration of these hours may vary, ranging from shorter to longer periods, depending on the specific needs of the people we support.
Hours required:
- Monday, Tuesday & Thursday: 9:30am - 2:30pm
- Friday: 11:30am - 3:00pm

You are a calm under pressure, but confident-natured individual who can demonstrate resilience and understand the challenges of our service users. There are many responsibilities associated with being a support worker which can be challenging and fulfilling. It is rewarding when you are part of the support that enables a person to live their best lives in the community.
The candidate would have (Candidate Pre-Requisites):
- Ideally, prior personal care experience is preferred.
- Experience in working with intellectual and physical disabilities is advantageous.
- Highly organised and dependable
- Energetic, physically fit and active
- Self Motivated and Reliable
- Outgoing and positive in nature
- Patient and encouraging
- Happy to be active in the community
- Familiarity with complex medical conditions, like spinal injuries, traumatic brain injury
- Access to a car and ability to drive independently (a full Driver's License is preferred)
- Ability to drive a mobility van (training available)
- A Level 3 or Level 4 Health and Wellbeing qualification is preferred, and those looking to enter the healthcare sector will also be considered (comprehensive training can be provided)
- Flexibility to travel anywhere in and around Upper Hutt
- Flexibility to work on a rotating roster
- A legal right to work in New Zealand is a must.

- Pay Band: $24.73 - $30.78 per hour (This is based on the Pay Equity Settlement 2017 - hourly pay rates based on equivalency of Healthcare Qualifications assessed under Pay Equity).
