Job Description

Position Summary: As a graduate automation engineer, you will be working with a small team of engineers in a fast-paced environment to maintain and assist with the development of automation solutions that streamline processes in a laboratory setting. Although based in Auckland, you can expect some ANZ travel as part of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Robotic Automation System Design and Development:
    • Design, prototype, and manage robotic systems, encompassing mechanical, electrical, and software elements.
    • Optimise systems for peak performance, precision, and cost-efficiency.
  • Programming and Control:
    • Develop control algorithms for robot trajectory planning and object manipulation.
    • Develop, test, and refine software for diverse robotic applications.
  • System Integration:
    • Facilitate the smooth incorporation of robotic systems within commercial laboratory settings.
    • Construct interfaces and communication protocols to integrate with other machinery/instruments and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
    • Diagnose and remedy any integration-related complications.
  • User Interface (UI) Design:
    • Develop intuitive User Interfaces (UI) that streamline process management for the automated systems.
  • Testing and Validation:
    • Perform exhaustive testing and validation of robotic systems to certify compliance with performance, quality, and safety benchmarks.
    • Interpret data and refine design and controls based on feedback.
  • Documentation:
    • Generate and sustain comprehensive technical documentation, such as design outlines, operational manuals, and troubleshooting procedures for robotic systems.

Qualifications

Qualifications and technical skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Robotics/Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a comparable discipline
  • Experience in designing, prototyping, testing and debugging robotic systems
  • Proficient in programming languages such as C/C++ and Python
  • Skilled in 3D CAD modelling software such as SolidWorks or Fusion360
  • Experience working with microcontrollers such as ESP32 and STM32 is highly desirable
  • Knowledge in circuit design and PCB design is highly desirable
  • Ability to convey complex ideas and collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Acquaintance with safety protocols and best practices concerning robotic systems.
  • Eagerness to thrive in a fast-paced and ever-evolving work environment.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Robotics/Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a comparable discipline.
