Chapman Tripp
Auckland,AKL,New Zealand,1010 Full Time
Reference: 135_446276_478

Chapman Tripp's Auckland Finance Practice is looking for an intermediate [or senior] level solicitor to join the highly successful team, with a focus on bond issuances, structured finance and financial regulation.

You will be working on a range of innovative and market-leading financial markets transactions for prestigious corporate, bank, fund and other clients, including sustainable finance, bonds, securitisations, regulatory capital and derivatives. This is an interesting and challenging role and will suit an enthusiastic self-starter.

We expect that you will already have experience in a busy commercial law firm environment and are looking to take the next step in your career. You will have exposure with corporate finance, preferably including financial markets and advisory work. A strong academic background is a prerequisite.

Our Auckland team has recently advised:

  • On the establishment of the Community Housing Funding Agency, a bond aggregator to provide large-scale, low-cost debt financing to New Zealand's Community Housing Providers, and its inaugural $200m bond issuance. The bonds are the first labelled social bonds to be offered by a New Zealand issuer, with proceeds earmarked for social projects including affordable housing.
  • Chorus Limited on its debut offer of $170m NZX-listed capital notes. The notes were used to finance the repayment and redemption of its first tranche of Crown Funding Securities, which had been issued to partially finance the building of Chorus' UFB network.
  • Kiwibank on its $400m issuance of NZX-listed Tier 2 notes, Kiwibank's largest regulatory capital issuance to date. The issuance was the first since the RBNZ published the outcome of its 2025 capital review, and occurred the day after redemption of its 2020 Tier 2 notes.
  • Purchasers acquiring and financing several large portfolios of receivables under securitisation structures, including a bank's retail loan book, a non-bank lender's mortgage loan portfolio, and a portfolio of interest-free handset receivables.
  • Mercury NZ on its entry into Genesis Huntly Firming Options, providing virtual access to Genesis' Rankine Unit generation capacity at the Huntly Power Station using structured electricity swaptions.

Chapman Tripp has been named NZ Firm of the Year at the 2024 IFLR Asia-Pacific awards, the 2025 KangaNews debt market awards and the 2025 Asia Pacific Chambers Awards, so you will be working with high performing individuals on satisfying work.

If you are a talented solicitor with 4+ years PQE, wanting a step up or a new challenge, we think we have the best team, work, culture and opportunity to develop your career.

Working with Chapman Tripp:
