Waterways Team Leader - Christchurch

About the job:

We’re looking for an experienced Team Leader to join our Waterways team in Christchurch.

As a Waterways Team Leader, you’ll support supervisors and oversee multiple crews working across stormwater and waterway assets. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, supervising, and supporting waterways crews in the field
  • Running daily tailgate talks and weekly toolbox safety meetings
  • Coaching and training staff to build capability and confidence
  • Coordinating work with supervisors and stakeholders
  • Planning and organising upcoming work programmes
  • Managing timesheets and documentation
  • Recording work progress and workflows using EM2
  • Reviewing safety documentation such as JSEAs and Take 5s

What you’ll need:

  • Experience supervising or leading teams
  • Background in labouring, field work, or infrastructure maintenance
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • A proactive approach to health and safety
  • Full Class 1 driver’s licence is essential.
  • Workplace First Aid (or willingness to obtain)
  • Competence operating plant and equipment used in waterways maintenance
  • Grow Safe certification (herbicide spraying) is advantageous.
  • You will need to be physically fit, health and safety focused and work well in a team as well as independently.

All preferred candidates will be required to complete preemployment checks to the employer’s satisfaction. These checks include but are not limited to, Ministry of Justice criminal conviction report, medical assessment, and drug and alcohol testing.
