Role summary
We’re seeking 2 experienced Climbing Arborists to join our team in Gisborne. You will perform safe, efficient tree work to prune, dismantle and remove trees in a variety of settings. The ideal candidate is team-oriented, safety-focused and skilled at working at height. These are full time permanent roles of at least 30 hours per week, working mainly Monday – Friday although weekend work can be possible. Occasional travel requiring an overnight stay also possible, although rare (allowances paid).
These roles have a pay rate of $28 - $38/hr, depending on experience.
Key responsibilities
Climbing-prune, reduce, and dismantle trees. Safely & efficiently.
Ground work- chipping, hedge trimming, clean up.
Operate chainsaws and handheld tools safely while at hight and on the ground.
Rig and lower large branches and sections to ground level using slings and ropes.
Perform tree inspections and recommend pruning or removal solutions.
Carry out, debris cleanup and site restoration as required.
Follow job plans, communicate with ground crew, and assist with loading/unloading equipment.
Maintain equipment, PPE and ensure job-site safety compliance.
Complete basic paperwork: job reports, time sheets, incident reports.
Required qualifications & experience
Minimum 3 years’ experience as a climbing arborist or tree technician.
Proficient with rope techniques, aerial rescue, and tree rigging.
Current chainsaw ticket or certification and experience using chainsaws in trees (overseas certificates acceptable).
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Ability to work outdoors in varied weather.
Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
Commitment to safety; familiar with PPE and industry safety standards.
Desirable
Relevant arborist certification preferred (e.g. primary ITO).
First aid / workplace first responder certification.
Experience with stump grinders, chippers, and aerial lift equipment.
Experience working on residential, commercial or confined-site removals.
