As an Advanced Technical Officer, you'll provide high-quality technical support that underpins teaching and research activities across Biomedical Molecular and Cellular programmes. Working as part of a collaborative team of technicians, you'll help ensure laboratories, equipment, and specialist facilities operate safely, efficiently, and effectively.

You'll support teaching laboratories and research activities through laboratory preparation, equipment maintenance, stock management, technical troubleshooting, and health and safety compliance. The role also includes supporting students and staff during laboratory and research sessions, maintaining specialist instrumentation, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the School.

Salary will be in the range of $87,624 to $100,214 per year based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours a week), based at our Hillcrest Campus, Hamilton.

Ko wai koe? - Who are you?

You will hold a relevant tertiary qualification in a biological or molecular science discipline and possess strong technical laboratory skills, ideally developed within a university, research, or scientific environment. You will have extensive experience managing MPI-approved containment facilities, including PC1 and PC2 laboratories, with a thorough understanding of regulatory compliance, biosecurity requirements, and containment facility operations.

You will also bring substantial hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques, including mammalian and microbial cell culture, DNA and RNA extraction, PCR and qPCR, DNA cloning, protein expression and purification, and genome editing technologies such as CRISPR. Demonstrated expertise in supporting research activities, maintaining laboratory standards, and operating complex scientific equipment is essential.

You will be highly organised, meticulous, and able to effectively manage multiple priorities while maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance in a dynamic research environment. You will possess excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate successfully with academic, research, technical, and professional staff across diverse disciplines.
