About Halter

At Halter, we're on a mission to enable farmers and graziers to run the most productive and sustainable operations. Our customers are using Halter to break free from the time-intensive constraints of conventional practices. Imagine watching 500 cattle stand up and walk calmly towards their next break? No quad bikes, no dogs, no fences. Just a group of cattle walking at their own pace. People say it looks like magic. Our customers are revolutionizing grazing with Halter. It's changing lives and transforming an industry. People join Halter to do meaningful work. By joining us you'll be solving challenging problems within a talented team and a culture built for high performance. Our team out-think, out-work and out-care. We're committed to delivering real change in the world - this isn't easy, and in truth, we love that it's hard.

We're backed to deliver on a mission that matters by Tier 1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, BOND, DCVC, Blackbird, Promus Ventures, Rocket Lab's Peter Beck and Icehouse ventures.

We're looking for a Mapping Specialist to join our Guidance Operations team. This is a great role for someone who's passionate about ag, can quickly grasp complex technical concepts, and thrives on getting the details right. Please note that this role is based in Morrinsville. Please attach a Cover Letter with your application.

About the role

Every Halter farm runs on its digital map. Using drone or satellite imagery, we map all the infrastructure that matters: fences, gates, troughs and the cowshed. From there we know where every paddock and laneway sits, so we can build a digital version of the whole farm. The system uses that map to fence and shift cattle, so the more accurately it matches the real farm, the more accurately animals get guided.

With over 1,000,000 collars deployed across hundreds of farms and ranches, the edits to these maps never stop. Farmers are always changing infrastructure on the ground, and there's the odd thing that got missed in the initial mapping too. Farmers reach out through our in-app chat asking for their farm map to be updated. That might mean moving a fenceline they've shifted, repositioning troughs and gates, or adding new infrastructure like a feedpad or barn. Your job is to action those edits accurately so the map keeps matching the real farm.

You'll work closely with the support team, keeping them up to date on progress so they can keep farmers informed. Sometimes you'll jump on a call with a farmer directly to work through an edit, and you'll lean on support to chase up more information from farmers when you need it.

You'll spend most of your days on the R&D farm near Morrinsville. We turned the old calf barn into an office with prime views of our farm. Once or twice a fortnight you'll head up to our HQ in Auckland to work alongside our support team and you'll partner closely with our guidance engineering team so you understand the product at its core, which means you make the right calls when actioning edits.

What we're looking for

  • You obsess over the details. Even as the workload grows, your eye for detail never slips and your standards stay high. You notice when something's a few metres off, and you care enough to fix it rather than let the small things slide.

  • No relevant experience required. We are just after someone with a good attitude who's keen to get stuck in!

  • You're passionate about agriculture and want your work to make a difference.

  • You're tech-savvy, love figuring stuff out, and don't mind getting your hands dirty.

  • You're organised and self-sufficient. You break work down into manageable pieces, and keep the right people updated on progress.

  • You thrive on structure, working through things one by one, and breaking down bigger tasks helps you stay organised and motivated.

  • You get farming. Not just the big picture, but the everyday stuff that actually matters.

  • You're a critical thinker who can solve complex problems, even when the pressure's on.

Why Halter?

  • Every so often a company comes along that disrupts and transforms an entire industry, leaving society in a better place, and Halter is doing just that. We have a genuine and shared connection to our mission and want to make a real difference in the world.

  • Our product changes the lives of our farmers and ranchers, directly improving their livelihoods and their lifestyle. Your work matters.

  • Dedicate yourself to solving real-world problems alongside an epic team in a high-growth culture.. New ideas are highly encouraged, we're able to move fast, and our impact is real.

  • Healthy body, healthy mind. Health Insurance to support your well-being.

  • We offer 6 months of fully paid parental leave for primary caregivers, 4 weeks of fully paid secondary caregiver leave and many other parental benefits that support you and your family.

  • Our personal growth is important. Halter offers an annual $1000 self-development budget to be used for anything that fuels personal growth.

  • With Halter not being your standard 9-5, our time to recharge is important; we're offered wellness leave and unlimited paid annual leave. As they say, the fastest car needs the best brakes.

  • We offer an inclusive and attractive remuneration package made up of salary, benefits and an employee stock ownership plan (shares)
