Restaurant Manager
Job Description
We are on the lookout for a motivated and committed person to join the position of a Restaurant Manager for our restaurant. We are seeking a hospitality professional who is passionate about desserts, specialty sweets, and creative food experiences, with a strong eye for detail and the ability to lead and support a front-of-house team in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee the overall planning, daily operations, and management of the restaurant.
• Foster a strong customer-first culture by ensuring every guest receives excellent and consistent service.
• Plan and develop menus and sweet offerings in consultation with kitchen staff, focusing on quality, presentation, seasonal trends, and customer preferences.
• Organise and implement marketing initiatives, including advertising, social media promotions, loyalty programmes, and themed dessert events.
• Ensure that company policies, service standards, and brand values are consistently upheld.
• Build strong relationships with suppliers, source high-quality ingredients, and negotiate pricing.
• Manage stock levels and ordering systems, ensuring accuracy in records and minimising waste.
• Design and coordinate special menus for events, festivals, and private bookings.
• Manage and host functions and birthday parties according to customer requirements, ensuring smooth execution.
• Control food wastage and optimise labour costs to achieve business profitability.
• Oversee cash handling procedures, till reconciliation, and compliance with financial processes.
• Take responsibility for budgeting, forecasting, and overall financial management of the restaurant.
• Prepare staff rosters, manage scheduling, and ensure clear communication across the team.
• Supervise service quality and maintain smooth shift operations.
• Maintain compliance with council documentation and food control plan requirements.
• Ensure the restaurant meets all health, hygiene, food safety, and relevant licensing regulations.
• Maintain a clean, welcoming, visually appealing, and themed environment for customers at all times.
• Recruit, train, coach, and mentor staff, fostering a motivated and high-performing team culture.
• Lead and inspire the team to deliver exceptional service in a busy dessert restaurant environment.
• Ensure all customer feedback and complaints are recorded, addressed promptly, and resolved professionally.
• Oversee administrative duties, ensuring all records, reporting, and paperwork remain up to date.
• Liaise with local council officials and external regulators to meet compliance obligations.
• Ensure efficient table service, minimal wait times, and a consistently positive customer experience.
Experience / Qualification / Knowledge:
• Relevant diploma or higher qualification or at least 2 to 3 years of relevant work experience
• Strong understanding of the hospitality industry
• Knowledge of desserts, sweets, confectionery preparation, and presentation
• Ability to work weekends, split shifts, and public holidays
• Able to work independently and manage responsibilities effectively
• Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
• A passion for hospitality and a willingness to contribute to the team’s success
Work Details:
Work location: Any location in Wellington region
Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week (or more as per business needs upto 45 hours per week)
Pay rate: $26 to $30 per hour based on the candidate
Position type: Full-time
