Our Maintenance team is a key factor in ensuring guests have a comfortable room to return to after a day of exploring the unique outdoor environment, or simply relax in a peaceful and beautiful part of the world.

We are looking for an experienced painter to join our Hotel Maintenance team on a fixed-term three-month contract. This role involves painting and maintaining guest rooms, staff accommodation, and support buildings throughout The Hermitage Hotel.

Applications are welcome from candidates on a valid New Zealand work visa, including Working Holiday Visa holders, provided they have previous painting experience and are available for the duration of the contract.


What you will be doing

  • Internal & external painting, completing to a high-quality finish across hotel, lodge, motels and staff accommodations other areas to meet hotel standards
  • Applying your knowledge of different paints, solvents, adhesives, as well as different types of wall hanging papers and vinyl to ensure the best results are delivered for interiors and exteriors.
  • Operating and maintaining all tools and machinery as outlined in department SOPs
  • Planning and prioritizing jobs to ensure time limits are met
  • Ensuring a high standard of health, safety and hygiene is maintained
  • Carrying out any other general maintenance duties as directed
  • Working 7am-5pm including weekends.
  • Rotating on call shifts outside of regular hours to respond to emergencies

What you will bring to the role

  • Minimum six months experience as a professional painter in commercial or residential property.
  • Prior experience in property maintenance is desired
  • A confident and safe driver, you hold a full clean NZ Driver’s license or international equivalent
  • A can-do attitude and a willingness to learn
  • Friendly, outgoing, and professional, with excellent communication skills
  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to prioritize
  • A strong desire to strive for excellence

The role and benefits

  • Fulltime, permanent position, minimum 80 hours per fortnight, working 7am - 5pm
  • Pay range is $32.00 - $37.00 depending on qualifications and experience.
