Mo matou | About us

Legal Services is one of the largest government in-house legal teams. The team provides advice, support, dispute resolution, civil litigation, prosecution and tax technical services for a broad range of customers across Inland Revenue.

Debt is an organisational priority for Inland Revenue and as a result, we have seen significant growth in debt compliance activity. Two of the roles in our Litigation and Advice teams will focus on the increased demand in this area.

All three roles may be based in any of our Legal Services sites in Takapuna, Manukau, Hamilton, Wellington or Christchurch.

Mo te tunga| About the roles

The operational focus on debt work means the litigation role will include appearing in court on debt matters. The Advice role will include advising internal clients on debt related matters. The Technical Standards\Advice role will be focused more on the provision of tax technical guidance and advice.

However, all three roles will provide future potential opportunities across a variety of work. Litigation team members appear in court on civil, criminal and debt matters. Advice team members provide technical advice and support on tax and social policy issues and represent the Commissioner in the statutory disputes process. The Technical Standards team also prepares externally published statements and provides technical oversight for other externally published material.

Other key features of the roles include:

  • Being part of project teams involved in implementing new legislation.
  • Working both proactively and reactively to help customers to get it right from the start.
  • Being part of a solutions-focussed team that is recognised for providing high levels of customer service.
  • Contributing to the initiatives of the wider Legal Services team.

The salary range for all three roles is $113,138 - $151,050, based on a standard 37-hour 55-minute work week. The salary offered will be based on skills and experience assessed during the interview stage.

Inland Revenue supports flexible working options that work for the individual, team and organisation. Our flexitime provisions allow additional flexibility around how you work and balance your standard hours of work, including earning time credits where any additional hours are worked.
