We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a well-established family-owned business operating in the dredging and marine construction sector in both New Zealand and Australia. About the role
Heron Construction is looking for a Senior Estimator to join their Operations Team, reporting to the Managing Director. This is a hands-on, senior position with a strong mix of technical estimating, proposal coordination, and stakeholder management.
As the Senior Estimator, you'll be a key member of the operations team, responsible for leading estimating activities and driving new business success.
Day to day, you will:
- Lead and deliver pre-construction estimating from concept design through to working drawings for dredging, marine piling, and marine structures
- Complete quantity take-offs and pricing, and continually check estimates and documentation for accuracy and completeness
- Coordinate resources and workload to ensure proposals are delivered on time
- Work closely with Design Managers and key stakeholders to support design control and strong bid submissions
- Undertake site visits, design reviews, and contribute to contract negotiations as required
- Compile and coordinate bid submission information with proposal sponsors
- Support planning for future work and contribute to strong client relationships and public relations
- Support the development and implementation of company policies and procedures, including HSE and quality requirements

- familiarity with Candy Construction Software, MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and AutoCAD
You'll also bring:
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering or Construction
- 10-15 years' estimating experience (marine or civil preferred)
- Experience in first-principles estimating
- Solid understanding of construction and marine project activities
- Strong commercial awareness and communication skills
