We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a well-established family-owned business operating in the dredging and marine construction sector in both New Zealand and Australia. About the role

Heron Construction is looking for a Senior Estimator to join their Operations Team, reporting to the Managing Director. This is a hands-on, senior position with a strong mix of technical estimating, proposal coordination, and stakeholder management.

As the Senior Estimator, you'll be a key member of the operations team, responsible for leading estimating activities and driving new business success.


Day to day, you will:

  • Lead and deliver pre-construction estimating from concept design through to working drawings for dredging, marine piling, and marine structures
  • Complete quantity take-offs and pricing, and continually check estimates and documentation for accuracy and completeness
  • Coordinate resources and workload to ensure proposals are delivered on time
  • Work closely with Design Managers and key stakeholders to support design control and strong bid submissions
  • Undertake site visits, design reviews, and contribute to contract negotiations as required
  • Compile and coordinate bid submission information with proposal sponsors
  • Support planning for future work and contribute to strong client relationships and public relations
  • Support the development and implementation of company policies and procedures, including HSE and quality requirements

You'll also bring:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering or Construction
  • 10-15 years' estimating experience (marine or civil preferred)
  • Experience in first-principles estimating
  • Solid understanding of construction and marine project activities
  • Strong commercial awareness and communication skills

The successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment medical and drug test prior to the commencement of employment.
