Korero mo te turanga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Kaiarahi Tauira - International Student Adviser to join the International Student Support Team on a 12-month fixed term basis. This is a full-time role based on Kelburn campus in Wellington city.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support international students to reach their goals and complete their studies through providing accurate and timely advice.
  • Plan and deliver student events including International Orientation.
  • Visa and insurance support.
  • Develop strong relationships with stakeholders across the University to ensure students have holistic support.

You will be a positive, reliable, and empathetic professional with sound judgement and strong problem-solving skills. With a proactive, people-first approach, you will be confident providing advice and support to students in complex scenarios.

Your experience working with people from culturally diverse backgrounds will enable you to engage effectively with students one-to-one and through presentations, workshops, and events. You will enjoy contributing to a close-knit team and be able to self-manage, use initiative, and balance competing priorities.

Key Requirements:

  • Commitment to application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in an educational context.
  • Proven experience of counselling or support, preferably in an academic environment.
  • Outstanding communication skills with strong cross-cultural competencies.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • A good attention to detail and the ability to contribute to compliance.
  • Friendly, energetic, and passionate about the success of our international students.
