Job Description

We are looking for a Geomembrane Technician !

You will be based in Auckland

This is a full-time permanent position.
Wages: $30–$36 per hour, depending on your skills and experience
Hours: Guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week

General duties include but are not limited to:

  • Install geomembrane liners and associated geosynthetic materials on containment projects.
  • Measure, position, align, and secure geomembrane sheets according to engineering drawings and project specifications.
  • Prepare surfaces and subgrades to ensure proper liner installation.
  • Install anchoring systems, ballast materials, and protective layers.
  • Cut and shape geomembrane materials to fit project requirements.
  • Operate wedge welders, extrusion welders, and other specialised welding equipment to join geomembrane sheets.
  • Perform thermal fusion welding and extrusion welding of HDPE, LLDPE, PVC, and other geomembrane materials.
  • Inspect welded seams to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Conduct trial welds and adjust welding parameters according to site conditions.
  • Repair defective seams and damaged geomembrane sections.
  • Maintain welding equipment and perform routine operational checks.
  • Conduct non-destructive testing of welded seams, including air pressure testing, vacuum box testing, spark testing, and visual inspections.
  • Record welding and testing results in accordance with quality assurance requirements.
  • Identify defects and implement corrective actions.
  • Any other tasks as reasonably required, with priority given to welding duties.
  • Comply with all aspects of any contract, project, or task and deliver customer services that meet or exceed the expectations of the customer or business,

The ideal candidate must demonstrate:

  • At least 3 years' experience in geomembrane installation, or welding, or a related field.
  • Experience operating welding equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings, and specifications
  • Willing to undergo pre-employment screening
  • Able to complete basic paperwork when needed
  • Understands and practices the principles of zero harm
  • Calm, professional temperament and good communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work well under pressure
  • Able to problem solve and manage time well
