Your Role

The purpose of the Business Development Manager is to work in close alignment with the Head of Growth and DAU to develop a strategically focussed sales funnel.

This includes seeking and maintaining strategic relationships in NZ’s corporate and commercial business landscape, operating at the level of the C Suite, Boards, Directors and other relevant key business decision makers. The role will both connect with and undertake needs analyses for these prospects (and clients) and will work with both the GM Growth Operations and GM Client Experience to ensure Aon is best positioned as the insurance partner of choice in the corporate landscape.

The position will also work closely with relevant teams to ensure that the Aon Connect tools are introduced as and remain an integral part of the growth strategy and activities.

Your Key Accountabilities

Performance against key accountabilities will be measured through annual objectives.

Strategic leadership

  • Develop a business development strategy aligned to Aon’s strategy and focussed on growth and client satisfaction. Execute this strategy together with the Heads of Corporate, Speciality, Growth and DAU and other relevant senior Aon team leaders.
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify new markets and client needs
  • Build and maintain strong relationships in the senior NZ and APAC business landscape in order to be and remain aware of business opportunities.
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of Aon’s products, new developments and thought leadership in order to market this information to businesses and predict client objectives.
  • Provide insight and intelligence to the Head of Growth and DAU about NZ prospects in order for this to predict and inform the NZ strategy.

.Operational leadership

  • Work closely with the Aon Connect teams in NZ and globally to maintain a reliable database of prospects
  • Work closely with the Bid Management and Client Experience leader in order to develop relevant client documents and presentations.
  • Use Aon’s best sales enablement methodology to take prospects through a robust evaluation and delivery framework
  • Operate as a lead Aon Connect and DAU advocate to the business bringing planned deliver of our 3x3 strategy to life
  • Use data and insights to support pipeline development and decision making
  • Partner with Aon client servicing teams to provide them with informative presentation and analysis support for new clients and prospects.
  • Lead change management for new ways of operating on new prospects in a planned growth environment

People leadership

  • Promote a health, safety, and wellbeing culture, ensuring physical and psychological workplace risks are identified and subsequently eliminated or controlled, and any incidents or accidents are reported and investigated in a timely manner
  • Promote a constructive risk management culture, ensuring Aon NZ meets its legal and regulatory requirements and delivers good client outcomes, including compliance with all financial advice processes, record-keeping requirements, complaints processes and training requirements
  • Lead an effective communication plan across the team, connecting colleagues to our purpose and strategy, and providing consistent, clear and regular messaging with regard to priorities and performance
  • Lead an engaged and inclusive workforce, championing proactive engagement action planning and inclusive leadership philosophies to help colleagues feel capable, valued and empowered
  • Develop and maintain a succession plan and talent pipeline for the retail channel, based on current and anticipated client and organisational needs, and supported by a strong performance management and accountability culture

Enterprise leadership

  • Collectively lead the Aon NZ business as a member of the general management leadership team, role modelling alignment, collaboration, enterprise accountability and a “one team” mindset
  • Champion Delivering Aon United, including bringing to life the Aon Story and Aon’s 3x3 strategy in the Aon NZ business, demonstrating agnostic client leadership, and working constructively and collaboratively with global and regional colleagues for the betterment of the total firm
  • Work with Executive colleagues to develop and lead the delivery of the total Aon NZ strategy and operating plans, including agreeing priorities, trade-offs, budgets and resourcing through an enterprise lens
  • Act as an Aon brand ambassador and custodian of our reputation, instilling trust and confidence in key external stakeholders, including clients, regulators and carriers
  • Clearly and consistently demonstrate Aon’s values of Committed, United and Passionate through your actions, behaviours, and ways of working.
