Principal Ecologist

SLR is an international environmental consultancy dedicated to making sustainability happen. We are looking for a Principal – Ecology & Marine professional to support our growing renewables pipeline across Aotearoa. This role is open to any of our offices and focuses on developing and coaching ecologists, building client relationships, and leading large-scale ecology opportunities.

• Preparing and leading offers of service for large ecology opportunities, focusing on terrestrial and freshwater ecology.
• Developing, facilitating and enhancing effective relationships with our clients and internal SLR team members.
• Delivering clear and precise, high‑quality reports.
• Undertaking fieldwork activities and resourcing the right teams on projects.
• Working within multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects across a range of sectors.

• A degree in Ecology or a related field.
• 10+ years of consulting experience in ecology, with exceptional technical ability in terrestrial/freshwater ecology.
• Experience winning, leading and managing projects.
• Established network and proven ability to win work.
• Experience in preparing impact assessments and environmental risk assessments.
• Working knowledge of New Zealand environmental legislation, policies, standards and guidelines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• New Zealand citizenship or rights to work in New Zealand.
• Excellent driving history and current driver’s licence.
