Who we areGisborne Hospital is the primary healthcare facility for the East Coast of Aotearoa New Zealand. It is a 115‑bed teaching hospital with medical, surgical, paediatrics and women’s health services. The Emergency Department sees ~30,000 patients annually, offers a 16‑bed department, on‑site CT, MRI, ultrasound and full laboratory support. The team includes FACEMs, vocationally registered EM specialists and urgent care doctors.
Key Responsibilities- Manage acute, high acuity, and complex patients in the Emergency Department.
- Provide EM clinical leadership as the hospital expands.
- Participate in aeromedical retrieval, medical education and EM outreach.
- Engage in ACEM training, supporting first‑year trainees.
- Registration (or eligibility) with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or equivalent.
- Proven experience managing high acuity, complex patients.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to clinical excellence and equitable care.
- NZ residency or eligibility for immigration.
- Experience in paediatric emergency medicine or ultrasound is an advantage.
