\n#J-18808-LjbffrPosition: Consultant Paediatrician – Paediatrics / Planet Sunshine / NNU, 1.0 FTE. Permanent contract. Salary: ASMS Senior Medical and Dental Officers SECA, Medical and Dental Specialist Scale ($185,380–$267,980). Location: Gisborne Hospital, Te whiwhinga mahi.
Key Responsibilities- Provide general and community paediatrics, including management of neonates, acutely unwell children, children with chronic disease, and behavioural disorders.
- Deliver inpatient, outpatient and community services to the Tairāwhiti population (≈ 52000, ~50% Māori).
- Participate in an on‑call roster, including evenings and weekends, with an average commitment of 80 hours per fortnight and a one‑in‑six roster schedule.
- Collaborate closely with the wider Paediatric team and interdisciplinary colleagues to achieve high‑quality care.
- Take responsibility for professional indemnity (Medical Defence) and other protection cover in respect of alleged professional negligence.
- Legitimate qualifications and registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- Registration as a Paediatrician on the vocational register or nearing completion of advanced training toward becoming a Registered Paediatrician.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians – Paediatrics (RACP).
- Familiarity with modern investigative and treatment techniques relevant to paediatrics.
- Ability to make informed decisions in a high‑risk, rural environment and to work autonomously within collegial relationships.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to manage a high and varied workload including emergency situations.
- Knowledge of Quality Assurance and accreditation principles with a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
- Cultural competence, sensitivity to all cultural issues, and experience working in a diverse environment, including commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Current driving licence valid in NewZealand.
- Professional development in a dynamic, small paediatric team with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration.
