Job Description
Responsibilities Translate NewZealand Government enterprise strategy into integrated people, workforce and capability outcomes across complex portfolios and operating environments in Wellington or Auckland. Anticipate and surface implications for people and capability of strategic changes, initiatives and decisions, working closely with executive and senior leaders to design forward‑looking, high‑impact people strategies. Deliver proactive advice on organisational structures, investment choices, and change direction before decisions are finalised, while partnering with leadership teams to elevate performance, refine leadership impact, and drive succession planning. Act as a trusted sounding board, providing candid, strategically anchored guidance on talent, organisational structure, and workplace culture to ensure sustainable high performance. Identify talent across portfolios and surface succession risks early to protect leadership continuity. Collaborate with senior People & Assurance leaders – including the Manager People Services, Manager Culture & Capability, and Manager People Operations & Intelligence – to deliver integrated, aligned and end‑to‑end people outcomes across the People and Assurance function. Qualifications Senior‑level strategic partnership experience at the executive level within large, complex organisations, with a proven track record of influencing enterprise strategy and structural change outcomes. Extensive experience in senior‑level people partnering roles, preferably in people leadership positions. Skilled in executive coaching and lifting leadership performance. Solid understanding of NewZealand employment frameworks, industrial and employment relations risk, and public‑sector accountability, with the ability to work in alignment with People Services on complex employment matters. Highly developed ability to anticipate, translate and influence outcomes from emerging opportunities and risk. Experience ensuring leaders maintain fair, lawful, and consistent people practices aligned to organisational frameworks and policy expectations. Experience providing constructive, respectful challenge and strategic guidance in high‑pressure situations. Strong business and commercial acumen, with the ability to navigate complexity and communicate organisational trade‑offs and impacts. Understanding of how organisational value is created through strategy execution, change, capability, workforce planning and people insights functions. Tertiary qualification in HR, business or a related field, or equivalent proven strategic partnering experience. Benefits Competitive salary appropriate to experience. Five weeks annual leave.
