Branch Manager - Christchurch
Job Description
Current Generation is growing.
\nWe are a Nelson-based solar and energy company with deep roots in the top of the South Island. For over 20 years, we have designed, installed, and supported high-quality grid-tied and off-grid energy systems across residential, rural, and commercial sectors throughout New Zealand.
\nWe’ve built our reputation through strong technical capability, quality workmanship, and long-term customer relationships. From our Nelson base, we’ve delivered projects across the country — and now the time has come to establish a permanent Christchurch branch to support growing demand in the region.
\nWe are looking for the right person to help lead that next stage of growth.
\nThis is an opportunity for an experienced electrician, solar professional, or operational leader who wants greater responsibility, autonomy, and the chance to help build something from the ground up — while still having the backing, systems, and support of an established and highly respected business.
\nThe Opportunity\nThis is more than a site foreman role or a standard electrical position.
\nYou will play a key role in establishing and growing Current Generation’s Christchurch operation, helping build the team, systems, customer relationships, and delivery standards that will underpin long-term success in the region.
\nInitially, the role will be highly hands‑on, combining installation work, project delivery, technical oversight, customer interaction, and operational coordination. As the branch grows, the role will increasingly shift toward leadership, team management, branch operations, and commercial growth.
\nYou’ll work closely with the Managing Director (based in Christchurch), the General Manager, and the wider Current Generation team, while having significant autonomy and influence over how the Christchurch branch develops.
\nWhat You’ll Be Responsible For\n- \n
- Help establish and grow Current Generation’s Christchurch presence \n
- Build, lead, and develop a high‑performing local team \n
- Foster a culture focused on quality, professionalism, accountability, and safety \n
- Develop strong local customer and industry relationships \n
- Help shape branch systems, workflows, and operational processes \n
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing team development \n
- Support sales activity by following up customer enquiries, undertaking site visits, and responding to technical queries \n
- Work alongside an experienced Christchurch‑based sales lead already in place \n
- Attend customer meetings and provide practical technical guidance \n
- Build trust and confidence through strong communication and customer service \n
- \n
- Oversee residential, rural, off‑grid, and commercial solar projects \n
- Lead installations and commissioning activities, particularly during the branch growth phase \n
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a consistently high standard \n
- Coordinate labour, materials, scheduling, and subcontractors where required \n
- Manage multiple projects and competing priorities effectively \n
- \n
- Provide technical oversight across installations and commissioning \n
- Support troubleshooting and problem‑solving both on‑site and remotely\n
- Work closely with the sales and operations teams to maintain efficient project flow \n
- Assist with forecasting, resource planning, and branch performance \n
- Ensure compliance with NZ electrical standards and health & safety requirements \n
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across systems and operations \n
You combine strong technical capability with leadership potential and a practical, solutions‑focused mindset.
\nYou take pride in delivering high‑quality work, communicate well with both customers and team members, and are motivated by the opportunity to help grow a business and lead a strong team.
\nYou may already have leadership experience, or you may be a highly capable senior installer or electrician ready to take the next step in your career.
\n- \n
- Ability to lead, manage, and develop a high‑performing team \n
- Strong experience with solar PV and battery systems \n
- Excellent organisational and problem‑solving skills \n
- Ability to lead projects and coordinate people effectively \n
- High standards of workmanship and attention to detail \n
- Ability to work independently and take ownership \n
- Strong communication and customer relationship skills \n
- NZ Registered Electrician with, or willing to obtain, a Mains Parallel endorsement \n
- Experience with off‑grid or hybrid energy systems \n
- Experience with Victron, Fronius, Sigenergy, BYD, or similar platforms \n
- Experience with scheduling, operations, or branch management \n
- Understanding of business operations and financial performance \n
- \n
- A genuine opportunity to lead the establishment and growth of a new branch \n
- A highly competitive package that rewards success and contribution \n
- Strong operational, technical, and financial support from an established company with an excellent reputation \n
- Competitive salary package based on experience \n
- Company vehicle \n
- Mobile phone and laptop \n
- Ongoing technical and leadership training, including support to gain Mains Parallel endorsement if required \n
- Diverse and technically interesting renewable energy projects \n
- A supportive, practical, and highly experienced team environment \n
- \n
- The role includes a mix of field work, leadership, customer interaction, and operational management \n
- Some travel and overnight stays will be required for training, installations, and team coordination \n
- Initially, the successful applicant will spend significant time in Nelson working alongside the existing team to gain a strong technical and operational understanding of the business and our approach \n
If you’re looking for the opportunity to help build and lead a growing renewable energy business in Christchurch, we’d love to hear from you.
