Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates, which operate non‑profit health centers across the U.S. PPFA also works to educate the public on and advocate for issues of sexual and reproductive health. Formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Planned Parenthood Action Fund is a separate non‑profit membership organization tax‑exempt under Section 501(c)(4). The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and limited electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education in furtherance of the Planned Parenthood mission. Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund seek a hands‑on and strategic Senior Director, Information Technology, Enterprise Architecture. This role reports to the Vice President, Tech Strategy and Architecture in the Information Technology department of PPFA. The IT Enterprise Architecture is a discipline for proactively and holistically identifying, analyzing, and optimizing information, technology, and processes into an integrated environment that is responsive to change and supportive of the delivery of PPFA’s business strategy.

\nPurpose\n

The role of the Enterprise Architect is to enable business and IT leaders to make investment decisions that balance and prioritize current operational demands, disruptions, and opportunities with the longer‑term strategic vision of the organization. The enterprise architect provides technology guidance, road maps, principles, standards, and best practices.

\nResponsibilities\n
    \n
  • Provide overall direction, guidance, and definition of IT architecture to effectively support the PPFA business strategy.
  • \n
  • Support all enterprise architectural disciplines (Data, Application, Infrastructure) and champion architectural initiatives.
  • \n
  • Review existing business processes and establish metrics to improve processes, and support all architectural disciplines under their direction.
  • \n
  • Lead programs to develop, maintain, and govern the enterprise architecture across the organization.
  • \n
  • Work on highly complex projects that require in‑depth knowledge across multiple specialized architecture domains.
  • \n
  • Lead the EA review board and ensure solutions are compliant with target‑state architecture models.
  • \n
  • Align architecture strategy with business goals and lead teams in developing technology plans.
  • \n
  • Review and/or analyze and develop architectural requirements as needed for the organization.
  • \n
  • Develop and communicate architectural policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures.
  • \n
  • Direct the research and evaluation of emerging technology, industry, and market trends.
  • \n
  • Ensure recommendations are based on business relevance, appropriate timing, and deployment.
  • \n
  • Act as a key partner with technology services to ensure all tech services are scalable and aligned with strategic plans.
  • \n
  • Advise on options, risks, costs versus benefits, system impacts, and technology priorities.
  • \n
  • Own and lead enterprise initiatives to define, design, and implement solutions, including reference architectures, estimates, and costs.
  • \n
\nEngagement\n
    \n
  • Partner with InfoSec Enterprise Architecture to ensure end‑to‑end architecture standards and design principles are in place, aligned to the target state architecture, and meet Information Security layer standards.
  • \n
  • Partner across the Information Technology and Information Security organization to provide strategic and operational direction on annual business planning, technology roadmaps, industry trends, and CIO priorities.
  • \n
  • Work with the Tech Business Partner team, application owners, and business leaders to understand business requirements and help them understand how technology solution trade‑offs influence strategy.
  • \n
  • Collaborate with project management and IT leaders to ensure progress toward architectural alignment with project goals and requirements.
  • \n
  • Consult with project teams to fit projects to enterprise architecture, and identify when it is necessary to modify the enterprise architecture.
  • \n
  • Partner with the IT/IS communication lead on the development and execution of communication and education plans for EA capabilities.
  • \n
  • Partner with AppDev and Enterprise Application Systems’ solution architects and application owners to ensure enterprise direction and standards align with specific application solution architecture.
  • \n
\nArchitect\n
    \n
  • Analyze the current IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement.
  • \n
  • Ensure the quality documentation of all architecture design and analysis work.
  • \n
  • Oversee the evaluation and selection of hardware and software product standards and the design of standard configurations, including Information Security Enterprise Architecture as part of the evaluation and selection process.
  • \n
  • Consult with application engineering and development projects to fit systems to architecture, and identify when it is necessary to modify the technical architecture to accommodate project needs.
  • \n
  • Consult with infrastructure development projects to fit the infrastructure to the architecture and identify when it is necessary to modify the technical architecture to accommodate infrastructure needs.
  • \n
  • Own and lead enterprise initiatives to define, design, and implement cloud‑based solutions, including reference architectures, estimates, and costs.
  • \n
  • Lead and mentor solution architects, engineers, managers, business teams, and individuals.
  • \n
  • Communicate cross‑functionally on the vision and provide presentations of the proposed solution.
  • \n
  • Act as a subject matter expert on cloud best practices within and outside the organization.
  • \n
  • Perform analysis of best practices and emerging concepts, both internally and externally hosted.
  • \n
\nLead\n
    \n
  • Lead the creation and evolution of the EA function, including coordinating an appropriately inspired staff in pursuit of relatively balanced enterprise architecture viewpoints.
  • \n
  • Assess (via appropriate measurements) and communicate the achievement and impact of the EA.
  • \n
  • Identify organizational needs (financial, skill, and process resources) and the structures and cultural change necessary to support the EA.
  • \n
  • Build and drive the maturity of Enterprise Architecture capabilities and ongoing refinement/continuous improvement activities, including Information Security Enterprise Architecture.
  • \n
  • Promote EA – its processes, outcomes, and lasting results – to the organization, including IT and business leaders.
  • \n
  • Be responsible for the overall training and development of the architecture resources.
  • \n
\nGovern\n
    \n
  • Lead and facilitate the creation of governing principles to guide enterprise information, technology, and solution decision‑making.
  • \n
  • Ensure Information Security Architecture is foundational to all solution designs through tight collaboration with InfoSec Enterprise Architecture and the CISO.
  • \n
  • Lead the development of an implementation plan for the EA capabilities based on business requirements and IT strategies.
  • \n
  • Design and direct the EA governance structure and compliance activities (exception and exemption handling) associated with ensuring compliance with the EA.
  • \n
\nKnowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)\n
    \n
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, computer engineering, system analysis, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • \n
  • 12+ years of IT and business/industry work experience, including architecture design and deployment, systems lifecycle management, and infrastructure planning and operations.
  • \n
  • Leadership experience in cross‑functional teams or projects, and influencing senior‑level management and key stakeholders.
  • \n
  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments.
  • \n
  • Knowledge of all components of holistic enterprise architecture, business re‑engineering principles and processes, and basic knowledge of financial models and budgeting.
  • \n
  • Excellent organizational, collaborative leadership, decision‑making, and communication skills.
  • \n
  • Ability to be assertive and influence across all levels, including influencing others without direct position power.
  • \n
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to perform critical conversations.

\nCompensation\n

$185,000 – $190,000 a year.

0‑10%, NYC/DC‑based – hybrid schedule of 2 days/week onsite.
