About the role

We're offering an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to become an integral part of our dedicated multidisciplinary team. In this pivotal role, you'll help shape and deliver high-quality, evidence-based care to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric and risk assessments
  • Provide clinical leadership in medical care and physical health management
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care
  • Support the development of junior staff and students through teaching and mentorship
  • Coordinate effective discharge planning in partnership with community services
About the Team/Service/Location

We provide secondary mental health services to adults aged 18 and over who are experiencing psychological distress. Our care is primarily community-based, enabling people to access support while maintaining their daily routines, with inpatient care available when clinically necessary.

Our service is designed for adults (18+) experiencing moderate to severe psychological distress that significantly impacts daily functioning or presents ongoing risks to themselves or others. Beyond direct patient care, we also offer guidance and support to primary healthcare providers, such as GP practices.

The Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) spans across Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Capital and Coast and includes local, regional, and national services.

About you
  • Vocationally registered in Psychiatry with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
  • FRANZCP or equivalent qualification and able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Relevant experience and training
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and collaborative working
  • Compassionate and communicative clinician
