Job Description

As a trusted advisor to the UDD senior leadership team, you’ll provide strategic financial, commercial and business advice that helps leaders make informed decisions and achieve organisational outcomes. You’ll bring fresh thinking, challenge assumptions, identify opportunities, and influence complex decisions that support Kāinga Ora’s long–term strategy.
\nWorking at the heart of the organisation, you will play a key role in planning, investment decision‑making, portfolio performance, budgeting, risk management and strategic business planning.
\nResponsibilities\n- \n
- Partnering with UDD senior leaders to shape business strategy and improve organisational performance. \n
- Providing high‑quality commercial and financial advice that informs key decisions. \n
- Challenging thinking and influencing outcomes to ensure the best results for Kāinga Ora. \n
- Supporting investment, divestment, portfolio and transaction activities. \n
- Leading budget, forecasting and financial planning processes. \n
- Identifying business risks and opportunities and helping drive effective solutions. \n
- Building strong relationships across the organisation and with external stakeholders. \n
- Using economic, commercial and industry insights to support strategic decision‑making. \n
- Contributing to strong governance, accountability and performance outcomes. \n
- Supporting Kāinga Ora’s commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and meaningful partnerships with Māori. \n
You’re a commercially astute finance leader who thrives on influencing decisions and creating value through insight and partnership.
\nYou’ll bring:
\n- \n
- A professional finance qualification such as CAANZ, CPA, CIMA or CFA \n
- More than 10 years’ experience driving organisational performance in complex commercial and operational environments. \n
- Demonstrated ability to develop financial and commercial acumen beyond the finance function into the wider organisation. \n
- Strong strategic thinking and the ability to balance immediate priorities with long–term outcomes. \n
- Proven experience influencing senior executives and working across large, complex organisations. \n
- Exceptional relationship–building and stakeholder management skills. \n
- Experience supporting governance and contributing to complex decision‑making processes. \n
- Confidence to challenge the status quo and provide fresh perspectives. \n
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex information. \n
- An understanding of public sector environments and regulated operating contexts. \n
- Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to supporting positive outcomes for Māori. \n
