\nAbout the role | Mō te tūranga:\nWe are looking for a Medical Laboratory Technician to join our Haematology Department based at Wellington Hospital. This is a permanent, full‑time position (80 hours per fortnight) within a department that performs a wide range of routine and specialist diagnostic testing using the latest automated systems.
\nKey Responsibilities:\n- \n
- Perform diagnostic testing in the Haematology Department. \n
- Operate and maintain automated laboratory systems and equipment. \n
- Ensure accurate and reliable test results in line with laboratory standards. \n
- Follow quality assurance, safety, and infection control procedures. \n
- Work collaboratively with the laboratory team to support efficient workflow. \n
- Contribute to high‑quality patient care through precise and timely testing. \n
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:

- Strong initiative and meticulous attention to detail, including consistent, accurate record keeping and a methodical approach to laboratory tasks. \n
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to remain composed and effective in a fast‑paced, time‑critical environment. \n
- The ability to work independently and solve problems proactively, while also contributing constructively within a supportive team structure. \n
- A disciplined approach to following protocols and quality standards, with the capability to identify gaps in your own knowledge and take appropriate steps to address them. \n
- Sound understanding of laboratory operations, including safety procedures, equipment use, and ideally hands‑on experience in haematology. \n
- Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand, including a current annual practising certificate as a medical laboratory technician. \n
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand. \n
If you do not yet have your registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand, we will also consider candidates who are in the process of becoming qualified.
