Network Development - Senior Engineer

Groundline Engineering Ltd.
Wellington, WGN, NZ Full Time
Reference: 01ff48d28205f2c6

Job Description

Overview\n

A network planning role with real technical depth and genuine ownership. Wellington Electricity is one of New Zealand's most technically distinctive electricity distribution businesses. A $893 million regulated asset base serving the capital region, a network unlike anything else in the country, 11kV and LV ring‑mesh topology, oil and gas cable assets, and a long‑term investment programme that's only getting more complex as energy transition accelerates.

\n

This is a newly created Senior Engineer role inside the Network Development team. Considered a strategic investment in technical depth that will shape how Wellington Electricity plans, prioritises, and executes its network for the decade ahead.

\nResponsibilities\n

A genuinely broad planning role with direct influence on capital investment decisions. You'll lead load forecasting, run reinforcement and contingency studies in DIgSILENT Power Factory, develop long‑term network options across traditional and non‑traditional solutions, and translate technical constraints into defensible AMP and board‑level recommendations. DG connections, technical approvals, and regulatory compliance are all part of the picture and you'll mentor the graduate and junior engineers around you.

\nQualifications\n

  • 7+ years of experience in distribution network planning at an EDB, asset owner, or equivalent
  • \n
  • Strong DIgSILENT / Power Factory capability — non‑negotiable
  • \n
  • Load forecasting methodology and reinforcement study experience
  • \n
  • Sound understanding of NZ electricity regulations (or a closely comparable framework)
  • \n
  • Commercial judgement: the ability to assess risk and make a case for capital investment
  • \n
  • Strong communication skills — comfortable translating technical work for non‑technical audiences
  • \n
  • A collaborative, flexible approach that suits a dynamic EDB environment
  • \n
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering essential; chartered status supported if you're on the pathway
  • \n
\nPackage\n
    \n
  • Competitive remuneration package
  • \n
  • KiwiSaver, insurance, and wellness benefits
  • \n
  • Relocation support available for the right candidate
  • \n
  • Flexible working environment
  • \n
