Job Description
IT Project Manager We’re looking for an IT Project Manager to help deliver technology initiatives for a government department that plays a vital role in public service delivery. This is a hybrid role with 2 days per week on site in Wellington. What You Will Be Doing In this role, you’ll support the successful delivery of IT projects from planning through to implementation and transition. Working alongside business leaders, technical teams, and delivery partners, you’ll help ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the standards expected in a government environment. What Will Keep You Busy Most work is Agile based; some newer projects will be run in Scrum. Supporting the end‑to‑end delivery of IT projects that enable better government services. Helping define scope, requirements, and deliverables with business and technical stakeholders. Tracking progress, managing risks and issues, and supporting change control. Assisting with budget tracking, resourcing, and vendor coordination. Preparing clear, concise project reports for governance forums and senior stakeholders. Ensuring project documentation is accurate, complete, and audit‑ready. Contributing ideas to improve how projects are delivered across the organisation. The Skills You Will Bring Experience as a scrum lead and in a traditional PMP environment. Proficiency in Scrum (structured sprints, scope and delivery management) and standard PM disciplines, including full lifecycle, financials, budgets, and reporting. Experience delivering bespoke, custom‑coded software development (e.g., .NET environments) with developers and testers. Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in IT, business, or related field. Mid‑level PM: 4+ years experience, with at least 1+ year supporting or managing IT projects. Experience working in IT delivery environments, specifically applications. Solid understanding of project management methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, Scrum, PMP, or Hybrid). Experience in or with government or regulated environments – highly desirable. Familiarity with public‑sector governance, reporting, or assurance processes – highly desirable. Certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, AgilePM, or Scrum. Strong communication skills – comfortable working with technical and non‑technical people. Curious, proactive learner who enjoys improving how things are done.
