Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our Oncology Medical Day Unit team at Gisborne Hospital. In this senior specialist role, you will provide advanced clinical expertise and leadership to support high-quality care delivery for oncology patients. The role will have a systemic anti-cancer treatment focus and you will work in outpatient and community settings. You will play a key role in care coordination, service development, and supporting nursing staff through education, mentorship, and evidence-based practice.
Key Responsibilities- Provide advanced, evidence-based specialty nursing care
- Lead and support service development and care coordination initiatives
- Develop and implement clinical pathways, protocols, and guidelines
- Provide education, coaching, and mentorship to nursing staff
- Lead quality improvement and audit activities
- Support culturally safe practice and improve Māori health outcomes
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary and community teams
Our team of nurses works in a multidisciplinary team in the Medical Day Unit at Gisborne Hospital, working closely with the Waikato and local Medical Oncology teams.

Essential Qualifications- Registered Nurse with current NZ APC
- Postgraduate Diploma (or equivalent)
- Minimum 5 years recent clinical experience
- PDRP at Expert or Designated Senior Nurse level
- Strong clinical leadership and advanced assessment skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building ability
- Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity
- Specialty knowledge and experience in oncology
- Working toward prescribing and/or Clinical Masters qualification
- Working at Health New Zealand
