Location: Ewart building - Coromandel Street - Newtown Wellington
Contract: Casual employment with shifts rostered on a rotating and as required basis. The morning shift is 08:00‑16:30, afternoon shift 13:30‑22:00.

About the RoleWe are seeking to recruit casual district nurses, including a casual stoma district nurse, to join our Wellington team. A casual position means that there are no guaranteed hours; shifts are flexible, making it ideal for those balancing other commitments. These positions are ideal for experienced registered nurses (RNs) who are looking to use their skills and knowledge in a role that offers greater autonomy, flexibility, and variety.
District Nursing is a multi‑faceted and rapidly evolving service. In this role you will work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, using your clinical assessment and decision‑making skills to provide high‑quality patient care.
Professional development is well supported with ongoing learning and development opportunities, including in‑service training, study days, opportunities for post‑registration academic study through local institutions and participation in team meetings and clinical governance activities.

About the Team / Service / LocationThe District Nursing team plays a critical role in supporting the transition of patients from Hospital Health Services (HHS) into the community. The service also works closely with General Practice teams to support patients living in the community. District Nurses deliver a wide range of clinical services in patients' homes, including:
- Intravenous therapy
- Palliative care
- Wound care
- Compression bandaging
- Doppler assessments
- Medication management
- Stoma care
- Continence care
- Respiratory care, including home oxygen therapy
The team works collaboratively with Community Health services and Health Care Assistants (HCAs). District Nurses undertake comprehensive patient assessments, develop individualised care plans, and coordinate the transition of appropriate care tasks to HCAs for ongoing support. This integrated approach ensures patients receive safe, effective, and person‑centred care within their home environment.
About YouTo be successful in this role:
- Current Annual Practising Certificate as a Registered Nurse with the NZ Nursing Council
- Previous experience in district nursing and interest in working in the community setting
- Experience/interest in PDRP, or willingness to work towards
- Ability to work autonomously and make sound clinical decisions
- Police vetting (required if not currently employed by Capital, Coast)
- Board range of experience in clinical nursing of at least five years
- Able to develop and maintain relationships with other community healthcare providers
- Ability to work collaboratively – a team player with excellent decision‑making skills
- A current driver licence is essential
