Job Description

We are looking for a skilled Finance Business Partner to join our Auckland team, partnering closely with our regional project teams across Tauranga and Hamilton.

This role suits someone who enjoys working alongside operational teams and providing clear financial insights that support decision-making. Someone who can challenge the numbers, identify risks and opportunities, and help ensure our projects remain financially accurate, transparent and commercially successful.

Your Key Impact

You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial accuracy, transparency and efficiency of our construction projects. Working closely with Project Managers, Operations Managers and the wider finance team, you’ll oversee project reporting, forecasting and financial controls to help the business remain financially viable, avoid costly mistakes and deliver successful project outcomes.

You’ll also be part of an exciting company‑wide modern data architecture transformation that is laying the foundation for an AI‑enabled business.

What you’ll be doing
  • Preparing monthly cost reports and twelve‑month cashflow forecasts
  • Producing regular reporting through Power BI on project performance, work in hand, and forecasted project revenue and expenditure
  • Supporting the Operations Manager with monthly board reporting
  • Collaborating with our Tendering team to ensure sufficient pre‑construction and programme delivery knowledge
  • Overseeing the Project Accountant with the timely submission of monthly progress claims, budget inputs, subcontractor payments and variations
  • Managing project retentions and bonding requirements
  • Providing cost‑to‑complete reviews and risk assessments alongside project teams
  • Forecasting plant, labour and material costs and reporting on plant utilisation
  • Maintaining up‑to‑date project balance sheet reconciliations
  • Managing project assets and maintaining accurate registers
  • Liaising between project teams and company finance functions to ensure accurate and timely reporting
What you’ll bring Key requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Minimum four years’ experience in financial or management accounting, preferably within the civil engineering industry
  • Solid understanding of construction project financials
  • Willingness to travel between Auckland, Tauranga and Hamilton as required (typically up to one week per month)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate across different audiences
  • Ability to work within a project team environment, ask questions and challenge the numbers
  • Proficiency in Excel and financial accounting systems, with the ability to learn and improve systems
  • Attention to detail with the ability to generate, maintain and present clean data streams
  • Strong commercial acumen and a genuine thirst for learning
Preferred:
  • Experience with data modelling and Power BI
  • Experience working within civil engineering, infrastructure or construction environments
