Wellington based | Permanent | Full-time 4.4 weeks annual leave | Wellness allowance after 12 months | Midpoint of $94,267 dependent on experience
What you’ll do- Provide high-quality legal advice and interpretation, identifying risks, issues, and opportunities across legislative and regulatory matters.
- Support policy development and legislative processes, contributing legal insights and helping translate policy into effective legislation.
- Deliver corporate and commercial legal work, including drafting and advising on contracts, procurement processes, and commercial arrangements.
- Contribute to litigation and public law matters, working with external counsel and supporting civil and criminal proceedings involving the Ministry.
- Build strong relationships and lead work delivery, collaborating across teams and stakeholders to deliver timely legal outcomes.
- Qualified Solicitor with a Bachelor of Laws and current (or eligible) practising certificate in New Zealand.
- Strong ability to interpret legislation and provide clear, high‑quality legal advice in complex environments.
- Excellent research, analytical, and problem‑solving skills, with sound judgement on legal and policy issues.
- Proven capability to build relationships and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Understanding of government processes, public law, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations, with experience in commercial or health law an advantage.
