Anaesthetist for Theatre, Critical Care/ICU – Permanent Full-Time

Timaru Hospital (South Canterbury, South Island, New Zealand) is seeking an Anaesthetist to join our Anaesthesia Department. The department services four theatres, an obstetric unit (590 births per year), and a combined ICU/CCU. The role delivers safe and efficient anaesthetic services, intensive care, pain management, day‑patient and outpatient clinic sessions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide anaesthetic care in theatres, obstetrics and intensive care units.
  • Participate in day‑patient and outpatient clinic sessions.
  • Work primary shift hours 8:00am – 6:00pm Monday to Friday.
  • Provide on‑call cover at an agreed roster frequency (1:12th) for evenings, weekends and public holidays.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Medical Council of NewZealand registration or equivalent – overseas candidates must have their credentials verified through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates’ Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials (EPIC) and must obtain NZMC vocational scope registration.
  • Evidence of anaesthetic training with experience in critical care or ICU is preferred.
  • Strong communication, teamwork and patient‑centred care skills.
