Consultant Psychiatrist - Inpatient Older Persons

Location: Te Whare Ra Uta, Kenepuru Hospital, Porirua

Service: Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service

Contract: Permanent, full time (1 FTE)

Salary: As per ASMS SECA

This role is for the Mental Health Service Older Persons (MHSOP) inpatient unit. The MHSOP provides specialist assessment, treatment and rehabilitation interventions for older adults presenting with mental health needs and complex behavioral and psychological needs secondary to dementia (BPSD). The unit is part of the Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) and works closely with multidisciplinary teams at healthcare and community agencies.

• Assess, treat, and rehabilitate older adults with mental health and behavioral needs.
• Work collaboratively with nursing, medical, occupational therapy, clinical psychology, social work and support staff.
• Coordinate care in partnership with clients, whanau, primary care and other agencies.

• Vocationally registered in Psychiatry with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) or equivalent.
• FRANZCP or equivalent qualification and ability to register for vocational registration with MCNZ.
• Relevant experience and training in older adults mental health and dementia related care.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
