We are seeking an experienced Ophthalmologist to join our team at Christchurch Hospital on a fixed‑term basis to provide parental‑leave cover. This role is 0.8FTE, commencing 21September2026 through to 24September2027.

As an Ophthalmologist, you will provide high‑quality specialist care across a broad range of ophthalmic services, contributing to both acute and planned care pathways. You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and support service delivery across inpatient, outpatient, and theatre settings.

The Canterbury Eye Service is a busy and progressive tertiary ophthalmology service based at Christchurch Hospital, providing specialist eye care to the Canterbury region and wider South Island.

The service delivers comprehensive ophthalmic care across a broad range of subspecialties, including acute, outpatient, surgical, and complex tertiary referrals.

Working alongside a dedicated multidisciplinary team of Ophthalmologists, registrars, nurses, orthoptists, and allied health professionals, you will contribute to delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care while supporting service innovation and continuous improvement.

As an experienced Ophthalmologist, you will bring:

• Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO), or equivalent.
• Eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
