Senior Microsoft 365 Engineer – Fixed‑Term Position

Location: Porirua CBD, Band I, Police Employee. Contract: 24 months fixed term.

About the role

The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) group works to provide digital technology and communications solutions that support excellence in policing. The Collaboration & Email team is responsible for delivering new initiatives using Microsoft modern tools and for providing ongoing support and maintenance. As a Senior Microsoft 365 Engineer, you will work in an Agile product delivery model under the Technical Product Owner to create a modern collaboration experience for New Zealand Police.

Key accountabilities
  • Collaborate with peers and stakeholders to understand organisational goals and deliver business value.
  • Monitor and maintain an overview of Microsoft Online Services to ensure continuity and availability.
  • Contribute to the product roadmap for Collaboration and Email and assist the Technical Product Owner in delivering value for business groups.
  • Provide technical leadership and advanced support across Microsoft 365 collaboration services, including Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Exchange Online and Power Platform.
  • Support governance, security, compliance and lifecycle management across Microsoft 365 services.
  • Troubleshoot complex incidents and service issues, working with internal teams and vendors to resolve problems and improve service reliability.
  • Identify opportunities to automate, simplify or improve operational processes.
  • Support change, adoption and communication activities so staff can make effective use of Microsoft 365 tools.
What you’ll bring
  • Highly developed communication skills, able to translate technical and non‑technical information to a range of audiences.
  • Exceptional problem‑solving skills with a strong focus on end‑to‑end ownership of issues.
  • Advanced knowledge of security, architecture and change management within a government agency.
  • A proactive, curious and customer‑focused approach, with the ability to own complex problems through to resolution.
  • Ability to work effectively with technical teams, vendors, product owners and business stakeholders.
  • Experience working in a product team using Agile methodologies to deliver business value.
  • ITIL v4 & Agile fundamentals (preferred).
  • Advanced administration experience across Microsoft 365 collaboration services, including Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Exchange Online and Power Platform.

This position is for New Zealand citizens or residents with the right to work in New Zealand. Candidates must be able to meet the full security clearance requirements for New Zealand Police.
