Job Description

Mercury is a bold future-focused organisation, providing energy and telecommunications to more Kiwis than anyone else, leading the way with renewable energy and working toward a sustainable future. At the heart is our purpose. Taking care of tomorrow: connecting people and place today. This pushes us to do all we can to create a better future for our people, our communities, and Aotearoa New Zealand.

Our teams at Mercury make a real difference to Aotearoa New Zealand by doing new and exciting things with energy, and our Customer business is entering an important next stage of growth and transformation.

As we continue to evolve, we’ve created a number of new roles to strengthen the way our Customer teams are set up for the future. These roles will support clearer accountability, stronger commercial ownership and better alignment across our channels, helping us stay efficient, customer-focused and future-fit.

At Mercury, we're on a mission to take care of tomorrow — and our brand is how we bring that to life for New Zealanders every day. We're looking for an experienced Senior Brand Manager to own Mercury's brand strategy and be the growth engine behind how Mercury is perceived, remembered, and chosen.

This is a senior, brand-first role sitting at the heart of our Marketing team. You'll set the direction for broad brand expression — across integrated campaigns, social, paid, owned and earned channels — and lead a small, talented team to deliver work that's distinctive, purposeful, and consistently on brand. If you've led brand transformations, built brands that drive customer acquisition, and know how to translate business needs into compelling brand strategy, we want to hear from you.

Tāu e mahi ai – What you'll be doing
  • Leading Mercury's annual brand plan — setting objectives, audience priorities, and investment approach to build brand equity and drive customer acquisition over time
  • Driving end-to-end integrated brand campaigns, from strategic brief and creative development through to media, production, and evaluation
  • Orchestrating brand insights — drawing on health tracking, customer research, social listening, and competitive analysis to continuously inform and evolve brand strategy
  • Acting as Mercury's brand guardian, ensuring our standards, tone of voice, and visual identity show up consistently across every channel and touchpoint
  • Translating business needs into clear brand opportunities, connecting commercial priorities to brand activity
  • Leading and developing the Social Lead and Brand Executive, providing coaching, clear direction, and genuine investment in their growth
  • Managing agency relationships and brand budgets with rigour — getting the best creative work and demonstrating return on investment
  • 8+ years' experience in brand management, including brand strategy, broad brand expression, and brand transformation
  • Proven ability to lead integrated brand campaigns from brief to evaluation, with measurable impact on awareness, consideration, and preference
  • Experience building brands that drive customer acquisition, with demonstrated exposure across both B2B and B2C environments
  • A background in professional services is highly regarded, alongside experience in consumer or purpose-led brand environments
  • Astute creative judgement — you can champion bold, distinctive work that cuts through, and you know when something isn't right
  • Confidence translating business needs into brand strategy, with strong influencing skills across senior stakeholders, agencies, and cross-functional teams
  • Experience leading or mentoring direct reports, with a genuine commitment to developing others
  • Additional 5 days leave per annum (MyDays)
  • $400 one off tax-free payment towards setting up your home office
  • A diverse workplace where your unique abilities and talents will be recognised and encouraged
  • Annual salary reviews with excellent parental leave policy, with the option to purchase additional leave
  • The opportunities, career paths and facilities associated with working for one of New Zealand's largest multi-utility providers
  • Flexible working policy - The autonomy and trust to work flexibly from our purpose-built premises and from home, recognising the value of this flexibility in the modern world
  • Discounted health insurance and free life and income insurance
  • Excellent well-being programme including up to $100 annual check ups and confidential assistance programme
  • Gender affirmation leave and supportive bereavement leave to be taken when you lose anyone close to you, including your pet
