About the Role

The primary purpose of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) 'Infectious Diseases Service' role is to provide specialist nursing advice, care and expertise both in delivering direct patient care and in supporting other staff caring for patients with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) within the Wellington region (Wellington, Porirua, Kapiti, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa). The CNS will work in collaboration with the Infectious Diseases Service (Capital & Coast and Hutt Valley), Primary, secondary and community providers. The role utilises professional knowledge and clinical skills for the assessment and ongoing management of patients/whānau with HIV. The CNS will be the point of contact for patients/whānau living with HIV, completing ongoing assessments, surveillance, treatment and care coordination in the outpatient and community setting, acting as a clinical resource and support for members of the wider multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist nursing advice, care and expertise for patients with HIV across the Wellington region.
  • Deliver direct patient care and support other staff caring for HIV patients.
  • Assess and manage patients/whānau with HIV, including ongoing assessments and surveillance.
  • Coordinate treatment and care in outpatient and community settings.
  • Act as a clinical resource and support for multidisciplinary team members.
  • Coordinate HIV care across the Wellington region (CCHV and Wairarapa).
About the Team/Service/Location

Infection Services includes five major components: Clinical Infectious Diseases (ID), HIV medicine (HIV), Complex Outpatient Antimicrobial Therapy (COPAT), Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC). There is close integration with Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics laboratory services. Infection Services provides clinical support, quality and risk management for the organisation.

About You
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as an RN; current APC.
  • Relevant post‑graduate qualification and holds Senior/Expert on PDRP or working towards this within an agreed timeframe.
  • Significant nursing experience and knowledge with a demonstrated high level of clinical competence.
  • Experience using research, project management and quality improvement.
  • Proficient in information technology.
  • Ability to present to groups/individuals and experience in health education across different sectors and disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability and interest in data collection and analysis.
  • Ability to contribute to policy review and network widely in the organisation, including primary care, ARC and other community providers.
