Job Description
We are seeking a Fellow to lead the Children's Emergency Department (CED) at Starship Child Health, Auckland. This fixed‑term, full‑time position (12 months, potentially 24months) commences in February2027.
You will provide clinical and non‑clinical leadership to ensure all children receive excellent and equitable care. Your role will include supervision of junior staff, medical and nursing education, quality improvement, research, clinical guideline development, multi‑disciplinary team training, and contribution to organisational wide systems such as mass casualty preparedness and pandemic responses. You will also promote Paediatric Emergency Medicine regionally and nationally.
The CED is the only dedicated emergency department in NewZealand for children and the regional paediatric advanced trauma centre for patients aged birth to 15years.
Responsibilities- Lead clinical and non‑clinical aspects of the Children’s Emergency Department.
- Supervise and mentor junior medical and nursing staff.
- Provide medical and nursing education, including clinical guideline and pathway development.
- Drive quality improvement and research initiatives within the department.
- Participate in multi‑disciplinary team training and cross‑departmental collaboration.
- Contribute to organisational‑wide systems such as mass casualty preparedness and pandemic response planning.
- Advocate and promote Paediatric Emergency Medicine at the regional and national level.
- Registered with the Medical Council of NewZealand (General Registration) or eligible for registration.
- Eligible to work in NewZealand; preference to NewZealand citizens and residents.
- Advanced trainee in Paediatric Emergency Medicine or Emergency Medicine.
- Previous registrar‑level clinical experience, ideally at least six months in Paediatric Medicine, Paediatric Intensive Care, and Paediatric Emergency Medicine, preferably in a tertiary hospital setting.
- Preferably within the final 1–2 years of advanced training in PEM or EM specialty training program.
Fixed‑term, full‑time appointment for 12months (24months may be considered).
