Job Description

Engineering Team Leader - Water Treatment

$125,000 – $160,000 per year + annual bonus

Are you an experienced Engineering Leader who builds capability in others while still delivering technically yourself?

We’re looking for a Senior or Principal Engineer with proven people management experience to join our consultancy team in Hamilton. You would have directly managed and developed people before, and you'll bring that experience with you from day one. You’ll set the standard for what good looks like: technically, professionally, and in how you show up every day.

If you’re a self‑motivator who doesn’t wait to be told what to do next, this is the position for you. In taking ownership of outcomes, you utilise your long‑term forward‑thinking leadership abilities to balance driving results from your team, for your team, and for the customer, while holding yourself to the same standards you set for others.

What you’ll own:
  • Leading and developing a small team of Engineers – setting clear goals, having meaningful performance conversations, and actively building their professional and technical capabilities
  • Facilitating project resourcing in collaboration with the wider Engineering Management Team
  • Participate in Business Development and meet net revenue targets
  • Driving project management start to finish – from identifying opportunities and creating proposals through resource planning and delivery
  • Providing technical expertise for client projects, including investigations, design, optimisation, commissioning, operations and planning
  • Carrying out performance assessments, process investigations, pilot trials, risk assessments, and developing options for optimising treatment plants
  • Proactively growing the consultancy’s pipeline - leveraging our network, your network, and identifying new opportunities with potential clients
  • Contributing to the strategic direction and growth of the consultancy - this isn’t a role where you just deliver; you help shape where we’re going

You will have an Engineering Degree (Washington Accord) and 5+ years’ experience, with 2+ of those in a leadership role. Experience with Water or Wastewater treatment is essential, and experience with process design, optimisation and commissioning is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to prepare professional, high‑quality reports, and demonstrating leadership capabilities are required.
