Senior Principal Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist BTW

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist ready to lead work, apply sound judgement, and deliver practical advice.

As a Senior or Principal Geotechnical Engineer at BTW, you will lead and manage both simple and complex geotechnical projects. Your advanced technical expertise will be crucial in providing geotechnical analysis, design, and advice to clients. You will play a key role in training and mentoring junior engineers and geologists, fostering their professional growth. Collaboration with clients and stakeholders will ensure successful project outcomes.

• Lead geotechnical investigations, design, and project management: overseeing and conducting investigations, designing solutions, managing projects from inception to completion, ensuring compliance with local and international geotechnical standards and regulations.

• Mentor a dedicated team of engineers and technicians: providing guidance, support and mentorship to ensure their professional growth and development.
\n
• Build and maintain strong client relationships: establishing and nurturing relationships to ensure client needs are met and fostering long-term partnerships.

• A suitable degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification.
\n
• Chartered member of Engineering New Zealand (CMEngNZ) and CPEng (or PEngGeol) registered, or about to achieve chartership.
\n
• At least 8 years’ consulting experience post‑degree related to Geotechnical engineering – with a significant amount of experience gained in New Zealand.
\n
• Strong knowledge and interest in geotechnical engineering, soil and rock mechanics.
\n
• Proven leadership and project management skills.
\n
• Strong communication and client management abilities.
\n
