Job Description

Snr Business Analyst – 22 month fixed term

Location: Porirua, Wellington. Band: J. Work for the New Zealand Police Information and Communication Technology section on a fixed‑term contract (23 months).
Role: Senior Business Analyst working on the Firearms Safety Authority project within the National Intelligence Application (NIA) product team.

Key Accountabilities
  • Gather, analyse and refine business and technical requirements through workshops and stakeholder discussions.
  • Collaborate with business teams, technology teams, third parties and other analysts to support delivery outcomes.
  • Support product enhancements and production environments as required.
  • Communicate complex or technical information clearly, adapting style to suit different audiences.
  • Facilitate workshops, group discussions and presentations, including with senior stakeholders.
  • Execute analysis activities to support the development and implementation of ICT solutions.
  • Participate in and facilitate agile ceremonies, supporting agile delivery.
  • Deliver value to end users through iterative and agile methodologies.
  • Manage competing priorities effectively while maintaining high‑quality outputs.
  • Maintain accuracy and quality of work under tight deadlines.
  • Identify, manage and escalate risks and issues appropriately.
  • Develop and maintain documentation and ensure deliverables are fit for purpose and aligned with best practices.
What you’ll bring
  • Proven experience working within a software development team, with a strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Strong analytical and facilitation skills, able to gather and document requirements, translate them into clear user stories and requirements.
  • Experience in an agile environment and familiarity with agile ceremonies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to adapt style for different audiences.
  • Ability to support end‑user value and engage with senior stakeholders.
  • High‑level collaboration, problem‑solving and initiative.
Special requirements
  • Must be a New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or hold valid work rights for New Zealand.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent practical experience.
  • Agile certifications are advantageous, preference for Agile Fundamentals certification.
  • Willingness to relocate to Wellington or be based in the ICT Building in Porirua.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
About the role’s context

The role is an individual contributor/ emerging leader level within the ICT product team, contributing to critical application delivery that supports police operations.
