Art and Collections Valuer
Are you passionate about art, collections and cultural objects? Ready to turn that passion into a specialist career in valuation and art risk consulting?
This is a rare opportunity to learn a highly specialised profession directly from an experienced Principal Valuer – we’d love to hear from you!
This is a hybrid role based in Auckland, with the flexibility to work both virtually and from our Auckland office, alongside site visits to collections across the region.
Aon is in the business of better decisions
At Aon, we shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world.
As an organization, we are united through trust as one inclusive team and we are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.
What the day will look like
Working closely with the Principal Valuer, you’ll be involved in every stage of the valuation process – from research and fieldwork through to client delivery – across fine art, decorative arts, collectibles and specialised collections. No two days are the same, but you can expect to:
Assist in preparing and delivering art and collections valuations for insurance, financial reporting, and asset management purposes
Conduct market research and analysis to support valuation conclusions, and gather, review and verify information relating to artworks and collections
Take part in collection inspections, condition recording, site visits and client meetings
Contribute to professional valuation reports and art risk consulting recommendations that help clients protect and manage their collections
Build positive relationships with clients, brokers, collectors and industry stakeholders, supporting them through the valuation process
How this opportunity is different
Opportunities to build a career in art and collections valuation are genuinely rare – this is a unique pathway into a niche and rewarding profession. You’ll work directly alongside our Principal Valuer, gaining one-on-one mentorship and hands-on experience across a diverse range of artworks, collections and valuable objects for private collectors, corporate clients, insurers, brokers and institutions.
As part of a growing specialist team, you’ll be supported by senior colleagues and structured training, with a clear path to take increasing ownership of valuation assignments and client relationships over time. If you’re looking for a role that combines art, research, client relationships and professional consulting, this is it.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
You may have a background in art history, museums, galleries, auction houses, collection management, valuation or insurance – most importantly, you’re eager to learn and develop specialist expertise. You will ideally bring:
A genuine interest in art, collections and cultural objects, with curiosity, initiative and a desire for continuous learning
Strong research and analytical skills, with high attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and confidence engaging with clients and stakeholders
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
A collaborative and professional approach – experience in valuation or insurance is advantageous but not essential
