Internal Affairs – Te Tari Taiwhenua is a central public service agency that plays a key role in supporting New Zealand’s government, communities and people. We deliver a wide range of essential services that touch everyday life, including passports, citizenship, birth, death and marriage registrations, and preserving New Zealand’s heritage through the National Library and Archives New Zealand.

We have an important regulatory role, overseeing areas such as anti‑money laundering, gambling, charities, censorship, and digital safety, while contributing to national policy and service delivery across government.

The role | Te tūnga

\n

We are looking for an experienced Executive Assistant / Executive Officer to provide day‑to‑day logistical and executive level support to our Secretary, bringing expert diary management, sound judgement, and the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders.

\n

Working closely with the Director, Office of the Secretary, you’ll manage complex diaries, coordinate meetings and papers, and support the smooth flow of information and activity across the office. You’ll also play a key role in connecting stakeholders and ensuring priorities are delivered in a dynamic and often changeable environment.

\n

You’ll be part of a tight‑knit, high‑performing team that values collaboration, trust, and excellence. This is an opportunity to work at the centre of the organisation, making a real impact and contributing to a well‑organised, effective Office of the Secretary.

\nQualifications\n
    \n
  • Proven success providing Executive Assistant support to Senior Leaders preferably within the public sector.
  • \n
  • Experience with proactive diary management for Senior Managers and effective decision making.
  • \n
  • Experience in interacting with Minister’s Offices, senior officials and other agencies.
  • \n
  • Proven experience of working in an environment that requires a high level of discretion, sensitivity and interpersonal interaction.
  • \n
  • Experience in working in a flexible environment where you are required to respond to changing needs and priorities.
  • \n
  • Proficiency in working with financial systems and collating financial information.
  • \n
  • Experience working with information management systems with a good understanding of information management legislation, standards, and practices in the New Zealand public sector.
  • \n
  • Confidence with Microsoft Office and an understanding or interest in using AI as a productivity tool.
  • \n
  • Experience mentoring or leading others within business support teams, contributing to capability uplift and individual growth.

\nCompensation & Benefits\n

The appointing range for this role is $90k – $109K plus KiwiSaver, with the potential for a higher appointment depending on level of experience. This is a full‑time (40 hour) in‑office role, Monday to Friday.
