\n About the Role\n

As an Investment Director, you will lead a team responsible for the assessment, stewardship and performance of a portfolio of significant Crown investments. You will provide commercial leadership across the investment lifecycle while contributing as a senior leader within the Investment Management Branch.

Key Responsibilities\n

  • Lead the management and stewardship of a portfolio of significant Crown investments.
  • \n
  • Assess, structure and negotiate complex investment opportunities and funding arrangements.
  • \n
  • Monitor performance and manage commercial, delivery, financial and reputational risks.
  • \n
  • Provide strategic advice and recommendations to Ministers and senior decision makers.
  • \n
  • Build trusted relationships with iwi, Māori organisations, local government, industry and investment partners.
  • \n
  • Lead and develop a high‑performing team whilst contributing to branch‑wide leadership and investment practice.
  • \n
Skills & Experience\n
    \n
  • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to evaluate complex investment opportunities, risks and outcomes.
  • \n
  • Ability to influence decision making and provide clear, evidence‑based advice in complex environments.
  • \n
  • Experience building and managing trusted relationships across government, industry, investors, local government, iwi and Māori organisations, or other senior stakeholders.
  • \n
  • Proven leadership capability, including developing people and contributing to high‑performing teams.
  • \n
  • Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
  • \n
  • Ability to work confidently in complex, ambiguous and politically sensitive environments.
  • \n
  • Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
  • \n
  • An understanding of the machinery of government or experience working in the public sector is desirable, but not essential.
