The Role\n

The Senior Design Engineer role offers an exciting opportunity for a skilled aviation professional to make their mark in the aviation industry. In this role, you will develop new design concepts and products, while being responsible for creating, checking and approving technical data used in the modification and repair of aircraft. You will also be a mentor to the Salus design team members to ensure their growth and learning is on the right path.

You will research, develop and create technical data defining the installation, operation and continued airworthiness requirements for design changes. This includes ensuring the data meets the necessary standards for achieving airworthiness certification, preparing and checking compliance reports, and conducting analysis and testing where required.

About the Job\n

Technical competency and existing experience will be highly valued. This role is ideal for someone who is either an existing or previous CAANZ design delegation holder or someone who is close to achieving technical competency for CAANZ design delegation.

What you will be doing\n

  • Lead the development and validation of design concepts and technical data for aircraft modifications and repairs.
  • \n
  • Lead and mentor engineers.
  • \n
  • Ensure technical data complies with airworthiness and regulatory certification requirements.
  • \n
  • Prepare and verify compliance reports, conducting analysis and testing as needed.
  • \n
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to colleagues, fostering a collaborative environment for problem-solving and engineering discussions.
  • \n
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of aviation regulatory compliance, with a strong focus on rotorcraft.
  • \n
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across the wider MRO organisation, ensuring design changes align with broader commercial and operational considerations.
  • \n
About You\n
    \n
  • Hold a recognised tertiary, professional engineering qualification (e.g., B. Eng. or higher).
  • \n
  • Extensive analytical and practical engineering knowledge in aviation design and compliance (rotorcraft preferred).
  • \n
  • Strong written/verbal communication with the ability to mentor and lead discussions and solve complex engineering problems.
  • \n
  • Strong understanding of aviation regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., CAANZ, FAA) and foreign validation processes.
  • \n
  • High-level business acumen and understanding of commercial considerations in aviation.
  • \n
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • \n
  • Previous experience with design delegation and the Pt146 authorisation processes is highly desirable.
