Job Description
We are seeking our next Chief Financial Officer who will influence strategic decision-making, drive organisational financial performance, and ensure the long‑term financial sustainability of the Commission.
\nAs Chief Financial Officer, you will be a key member of the Organisation Performance and Enablement leadership team, partnering closely with the Chief Executive, Board, Executive Leadership Team, and external stakeholders to deliver financial excellence and organisational impact.

The Opportunity\nReporting to the General Manager, Organisation Performance and Enablement, the CFO will lead the Commission's finance and procurement functions, providing strategic leadership across financial planning, performance, governance, reporting, systems, and capability development. You will lead a team of finance professionals while also acting as a trusted strategic advisor across the organisation.
\nKey areas of responsibility include:

- Developing and delivering a long‑term financial strategy and multi‑year financial plan. \n
- Building strong relationships with the Board, Audit and Risk Committee, Executive Leadership Team, MBIE, Audit New Zealand, Treasury and wider government stakeholders. \n
- Leading organisational budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and scenario planning. \n
- Providing strategic financial advice that supports organisational priorities and major initiatives. \n
- Driving value‑for‑money outcomes through effective financial management and procurement practices. \n
- Leading financial reporting, including annual reporting and performance accountability requirements. \n
- Strengthening financial capability, data utilisation, systems, and organisational decision‑making. \n
- Leading and developing a high‑performing finance and procurement team. \n
You are a commercially minded and strategically focused finance leader who combines technical excellence with exceptional leadership and communication skills.
\nYou will bring:
\n- \n
- Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification or equivalent professional accreditation. \n
- Significant senior finance leadership experience, ideally within the public sector or a complex, highly regulated environment. \n
- Strong expertise in financial strategy, governance, audit, risk management, and internal controls. \n
- Proven experience leading financial planning, modelling, forecasting, and organisational performance initiatives. \n
- Knowledge of public sector financial management frameworks and reporting requirements. \n
- Experience navigating Crown funding arrangements and budget bid processes. \n
- Outstanding stakeholder management and influencing skills and proven ability to engage at board level. \n
- The ability to translate complex financial information into clear insights and compelling strategic narratives. \n
- A track record of building high‑performing teams and developing organisational capability. \n
