Clinical Nurse Specialist Inpatient Medicine, Division of Medicine

Clinical Nurse Specialist – Inpatient Medicine, Middlemore Hospital. This full‑time permanent role is part of the Medicine Division’s MERIT team. The CNS will provide senior nursing oversight, advanced clinical expertise and leadership across the inpatient medicine service, working closely with Charge Nurse Managers, Service Managers, Medical Teams, Clinical Nurse Directors and multidisciplinary colleagues.

• Coordinate patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
\n
• Support patient flow across medical wards and Middlemore Central.
\n
• Provide expert clinical care support, leadership and decision‑making.
\n
• Facilitate timely and effective discharge planning.
\n
• Enhance patient experiences and health outcomes.
\n
• Support nursing teams during afternoons, weekends and after‑hours periods.
\n
• Drive quality improvement and evidence‑based practice initiatives.
\n

\n
• Registered Nurse with a current Nursing Council of New Zealand Annual Practising Certificate.
\n
• Completed Postgraduate Diploma with commitment to progressing toward Master’s level study (or equivalent relevant qualification).
\n
• 5+ years recent post‑registration experience in a relevant clinical setting.
\n
• Demonstrated senior nursing practice and leadership capabilities.
\n
• Advanced clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
\n
• Strong communication, collaboration, coaching and negotiation skills.
\n
• Ability to work autonomously while contributing positively to multidisciplinary teams.
\n
• Commitment to long‑term transformation for whānau and communities across Counties Manukau.
