Our customers range from small and medium-sized businesses through to major national organisations, including AA Auto Centres, Fulton Hogan, Ports of Auckland and Komatsu New Zealand. We also support a growing reseller network through TWL and other independent partners.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Key Account & Business Development Manager to join our Senior Leadership Team and help drive the next stage of Vertex's development.

About the role

This is a senior commercial role for an experienced relationship builder and business development professional who knows how to identify opportunities and turn them into sustainable results.

You will take ownership of key account performance while actively exploring new business opportunities across existing and emerging sales channels. Working closely with the National Sales Manager and wider leadership team, you will play a key role in strengthening customer partnerships and supporting the commercial growth of the business.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key national accounts
  • Identifying and developing new business and sales opportunities
  • Growing revenue and profitability across existing sales channels
  • Negotiating commercial terms and supply agreements
  • Supporting tender responses, sales proposals and presentations
  • Contributing to pricing strategies and product development opportunities
  • Monitoring key account product and financial performance
  • Preparing clear commercial reports, forecasts and presentations
  • Working collaboratively with the National Sales Manager and Senior Leadership Team
  • Contributing to the wider strategic direction and growth of Vertex

Some travel throughout New Zealand will be required, generally up to one week per quarter.

About you

We are looking for an accomplished commercial professional with a strong track record of delivering results in a similar B2B sales, key account or business development environment.

Ideally, you will bring 15+ years of relevant experience, with proven success in senior commercial or leadership roles.

You will also have:

  • A demonstrated track record of growing key accounts and developing new business
  • Strong commercial acumen and confident negotiation skills
  • Experience working within a nationwide product or distribution environment
  • Well-developed business development skills and a natural ability to identify opportunities
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills
  • Strong reporting, spreadsheet and presentation capabilities
  • The confidence to contribute at Senior Leadership Team level
  • A practical, collaborative and results-focused approach

Previous exposure to lubricants would be advantageous, either directly or through the automotive, commercial or industrial sectors. However, most importantly, you will be a genuine people person who enjoys building lasting relationships and finding new opportunities to grow business.
