Shape the future of Statistics education and research in Aotearoa New Zealand Te Kura Tatauranga | Statistics is seeking an early- to mid‑career academic (Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, or Associate Professor) to join us on a permanent contract. The rank will be commensurate with experience, ranging from Lecturer to Associate Professor. Ngā Haepapa Matua | Key Responsibilities (not limited to): Deliver high‑quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels Coordinate courses and develop innovative curriculum and learning materials Supervise Honours, Masters, and PhD students Establish and grow a strong research programme with high‑quality publications and external funding Collaborate with colleagues locally and internationally Contribute to service and leadership within the Department and Faculty Support a diverse, inclusive, and equitable learning environment aligned with Te Tiriti o Waitangi For more detailed information on the role, accountabilities, and requirements, please review thisposition description. Ideal start date January 2027 This is a full‑time (40 hrs per week) permanent role. We recognise that great candidates come with a range of experiences and career pathways, so the successful applicant will be appointed at the academic level that best reflects their qualifications, experience, research achievements, teaching expertise, and overall contribution to the role. The remuneration ranges for each academic level are outlined below. Your final appointment and salary will be determined based on your experience, qualifications, and the level at which you are appointed. Associate Professor: from $165,808 We’re looking for emerging or established academics who are passionate about teaching and research, and ready to take the next step in their academic career. PhD in Statistics, Statistics Education, or Data Science, or a closely related field Demonstrated track record of publications in high‑quality journals Ability to work independently across the full research and publication process Strong organisational skills Preferred experience Experience lecturing in Statistics, Statistics Education, or Data Science Evidence of teaching excellence (e.g. student feedback, peer review, awards) Experience supervising or co‑supervising postgraduate research Ability to secure or show potential for research funding Experience contributing to academic service and administration We are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to advanced Applied Statistics teaching, including in areas such as deep learning, large language models, experimental design, visualization, or time series. Ability to conduct in‑person and hybrid teaching in China is also advantageous.
